19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been won on hardcourt

A revitalized Medvedev secured his initial title for nearly 30 months with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The Russian, a former top-ranked player, has had a challenging period, winning just one win at the big events and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and issues with his serve in specific - led to him dropping out of the world's top 10 and finally parting ways with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.

Now working with Johansson and Goetzke, he has gradually advanced in the recent weeks - culminating in a hard-fought competitive win over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's initial trophy since the Rome competition and initial on a hard surface since March of that year.

Success also signifies the Russian has achieved 21 titles at 21 different tournaments.

"For the first time I'm at a event with my children simultaneously, so to get a championship is really nice," stated world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in tribute of my younger daughter Victoria, because the first title I won when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his last six title deciders, including in the German tournament previously this season.

His retrieving play style and recurring reactions on the playing surface had prompted commentators to question if his skill to compete at the elite level was over.

Yet the athlete has altered his approach in the past month, striving to approach the net and play aggressively, reinforced by an better service.

He fought back from a break down in the first set against the tricky Frenchman, securing four of the final five points to gain the advantage.

The pair exchanged breaks in the following set before the challenger, striving for his initial ATP Tour title, seized the initiative to push for a final set.

He defended four early break points in a tight deciding set before the Russian won the break to fifteen to secure the win.

Appropriately, he earned the win with a point at the net area, with Moutet unable to control a volley after over two and a half hours.
